Maggie and Rachel have sequestered themselves at Camp Crowley, an exclusive Connecticut resort (formerly known as the Maggie Cee Ancestral Homeland) for a weekend of writing. Will we stick to the schedule? Will we burn the patio down when we attempt to grill our dinner? Will we manage to nap and swim at my parent’s new secret river swimming hole during our two hour afternoon break? I’m sure the suspense is killing you, so we’ll update throughout the day.
So far, more or less on schedule!

Phyllis Troubridge and Beatrice Llewellyn are invaluable members of the Femme Show, keeping our sewing kit stocked and tatting lace gloves for the entire cast as Solstice gifts. They always pack a mean picnic when we’re on the road. You can meet them and enjoy a civilized pot of tea on Wednesday July 28 at their Evening of Tea and Entertainment.
Tell us about your first experience with the Femme Show:
We were very pleased to make the acquaintance of the Femme Show through an introduction in Spring 2008, and delighted to be invited to offer our “Guide to Revolution and Comportment for the Feminine Sapphist” the following fall. Despite the somewhat checkered reputations of artists in general in such matters as manners and hygeine, we found the members of the show to be unfailingly gracious and deeply informative. In fact, to this very day, some of the most valuable pearls of wisdom contained in our etiquette guide have been gleaned from members of the Femme Show ensemble.
What makes the Femme Show so important?
Though we take great pleasure in advising our niece, Tucker, and hir acquaintances on all manner of sartorial and social dilemmas from the comfort of our porch and parlor, the opportunity provided by the Femme Show for SPPSSM to spread the gospel of good manners and good taste to Sapphists everywhere has been invaluable. We at SPPSSM firmly believe that Sapphists of all identifications, orientations, and presentations stand to benefit and to flourish from the addition of etiquette, culture, and class to the collective Sapphic vocabulary. The Femme Show enables this dream to reach to all corners of the Sapphic social universe.
What are you most excited about for the Femme Show in 2010?
We at SPPSSM are always so honored and delighted to share the timeless lessons contained within our very own “Lifestyle Compendium for the Modern Sapphic Socialite.” By October, we are hoping to have enrolled the first class of pupils at the SPPSSM Finishing School for Wayward Sapphists, and look forward to guiding many a lost soul through hir much-needed Sapphic social transformation.
What is your favorite thing to do onstage? Least favorite?
As seasoned presenters– we are, after all, available to address your sewing circles and religious institutions, your historical sociaties and gardening clubs– we derive a great deal of pleasure from addressing the social and sartorial queries that are germane to today’s Sapphist. We always treasure the opportunity to interact with, and enrich the lives of, the Sapphic populus.
As it is most generous of the Femme Show to host us in this forum, we simply cannot identify any aspect of our speaking experience as unsatisfactory. Due to the sheer volume of Sapphists experiencing acute etiquette crises at any given time, we at SPPSSM do wish we had more extensive opportunities for consultation with show attendees.
Sweet or savory?
When paired with a complimentary tea, at the appropriate time of day, both petit fors and tea sandwiches can be equally enjoyable.

Did you know that we’re gearing up for our biggest tour yet with the largest group of performers? We need to raise money for the start up costs for food, supplies, gas and lodging. Because we are a diverse group of folks, we are cooking up a variety of ways for fans, friends, and strangers to help us launch the tour in style and fund our rent for our 4th Annual All New Show in Cambridge October 7 and 8! Just for starters:

Kickstarter is an amazing community based way for artists to raise funds. Here’s how it works: We offer you, our fans and supporters, fun goodies in exchange for your donation starting at the 5-dollar level. We have until August 14 to raise $600 to support the tour and our fall rent at the YMCA. If we reach our goal, your credit or debit card is charged for the donation, we get $600, and you get cool stuff. If we don’t reach our goal, no money changes hands.

We are so thrilled to introduce our femmetern, Allie! Like a Femme of the Future Allie is telecommuniting from Vermont, where the dandelions are in full seed, and will be on board live and in person in the fall. She was indispensable just a few weeks ago when I needed help to get the word out about our last minute venue change. I basically sent Allie and Lea a bunch of google doc links some phone numbers and told them to figure it out, I had ballet classes to teach. Wheeee! Welcome to the Femme Show!
Tell us about your first experience with the Femme Show.
My first experience with the Femme Show was at the True Colors conference at UCONN. I attended an interactive workshop with some of the Femme Show performers. I fell in love with all of their unique personalities and spirit, as well as the diversity of their performance styles. I knew I had to be a part of it in some way.
What makes the Femme Show so important?
I feel as though we Femmes can sometimes get lost in the big queer picture. The Femme Show is a powerful statement of visibility for all the fierce femmes out here, as well as a place for amazing radical free expression.
What are you most excited about for the Femme Show in 2010?
I am excited to finally have a FULL Femme Show experience! I feel lucky that I am able to be helpful to a group of such a great, crazy, beautiful people who truly care about art. Here in Vermont (my home state) we have artists and performers, but I have yet to find any who are as passionate and unapologetic as I have found in the Femme Show.
What is your favorite thing to do onstage? Least favorite?
I don’t do much onstage anymore, but when I did, one of my favorite moments was imitating a monkey, as well as sporting a one-piece tiger-print swimsuit and heels. My directors always had a thing for making me look ridiculous onstage, but I loved every minute of it. As for my least favorite, I’d have to say it would be singing a duet version of Debbie Gibson’s “Lost in Your Eyes” in my senior musical. Not much more needs to be said about that =P
Sweet or savory?
Hmm mostly sweet, although I do enjoy a nice mix. Things like chocolate covered pretzels or peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chips in it. I’m not really picky though, I’ll try anything twice =)

After a full season of touring, Johnny Blazes, named one of Boston’s “rising stars” by Stuff Magazine, returns to Boston with wo(n)man show, a one-person vaudevillian romp through the gender stereotypes that pervade our daily lives.
Utilizing a rich background in theater, clowning, drag, dance, opera and circus arts, Blazes fuses genres and exploits archetypes, all while keeping the audience laughing. wo(n)man show promises an evening of Johnny Blazes’ notoriously flamboyant combination of clowning with burlesque and drag, glitter with sophistication. The hour-long show will be followed by drinks and dancing.
