Yesterday I was so excited to rush home from work to discover that my copies of ‘The Femme Coloring Book’ had arrived safe and sound at my house! For those of you who have not yet heard of this fantastic project, it was edited by Caitlin Sweet and includes the drawings of femmes from all over. Each drawing celebrates or explores the femme identity of the artist. For example, my page in the book deals with the paradoxes of femme identity for me- “femme is baking cupcakes while discussing queer theory. It’s loud makeup and big tattoos. It is a trashy, sexy, and smart queer perversion of femininity!

We went to True Colors and we saw the future and the future is the youth! Yea, we know that was cheesy, can you say it better? Great! Because we’re looking for all-star youth to come write for us. We’re looking to include your perspective on all things femme or all things queer. Did you attend True Colors and were you inspired by The Femme Show in some way? Have you been reading the blog and thought of things that you’re dealing with that you wished we were talking about? Then send us a writing sample; pitch us an idea for a weekly or monthly column and join The Femme Show writing team!
Work can be submitted to submissions [at] thefemmeshow [dot] com. Please be sure the subject line reads, “Femme Show Online Author.” We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Not a teen, but still have an idea or an opinion you’d like to share with us? The Femme Show is always on the lookout for writers with unique and diverse opinions and perspectives on being femme and/or interacting within the femme or queer community. As always, you don’t have to be femme id’d to participate. We’d love to hear what you have to say and we’d love you to pitch us your story ideas. Please contact using the e-mail address listed above!

Femme community is something that I have been thinking a lot about recently, and it’s something that I’m not sure I have any real answers about. I’m really curious about what femme community, or even just the idea of femme community means to other femmes. I’m curious, what does femme community look like? Sound like? Smell like? Taste like? Is it possible? Has it already happened?
It’s only been in the past year of so that I’ve developed any sort of conscious community of femmes in my life, and during that time I’ve watched other femmes in my community do the same. Having a community of femmes has become something important to me, something I crave, and yet something that I struggle with at times. Read the rest of this entry »

“I feel sometimes that, by being less visible, I’m not pulling my weight, as if there were a finite amount of anti-queer fucked-upness in the world and if I don’t take my share someone else, a stranger or friend or neighbor or lover, is going have to take my share too.” Read the rest of this entry »

Today we officially released The Femme Show Community Mailing List. After several hours of struggling to make forms and the blog play nicely together, we’ve gotten them to set aside their differences in order to allow you to sign up with (or unsubscribe from <sad face>) the Official Femme Show Community Mailing List.
Many of you are already a part of this mailing list, which will send you periodic news and announcements about The Femme Show and things happening on the site, but for those of you who haven’t joined yet, please visit the Subscription page to sign-up.
You can also visit the Privacy Policy to see how that information will and will not be used.
Also, in case you haven’t noticed it yet, you can continue your support of the Femme Show (in an off line fashion – literally) by taking home one of our Femme Show T-Shirts available in The Femme Show Cafe Press store! There are several different styles to fit every body type and gender identity. Pick one up today!
