The Femmepire is back in Massachusetts and our other respective homes!
Before out last show, we had a final check in meeting, fueled with dripping molten lava nutella crepes. I think we were all a little overcome by what this trip meant to us and to our audiences. It means so much to connect with people and be a part of queer and femme community in so many cities. I don’t think we can take credit for building femme community or starting discussions in a place where we just spend one night a year. But I hope we are augmenting what’s already happening. We believe in what we do and we are so proud and grateful to get to share it night after night. And I am proud of how this little show has grown from its humble beginnings in a church basement!
Here we are outside of The Wind Up Space where we had our last show! The Wind Up was terrific! I don’t think I’ve ever performed in a bar that was so supportive of its artists. And Betsy Murbins, Roma Mafia and Femme6 really brought it as our guest artists.

by the end of the tour we had run out of camera batteries, hummus and gold glitter. time to head home.

The Femmepire is rocking! I am so proud of all our artists and guest artists and so grateful for the support of our audience, hosts, and backers.
We crossed Pennsylvania with no traffic snafus and have been enjoying a lovely two days in Philly catching up with old friends and doing two super fun shows!

Yesterday we visited the Rachel Kahn ancestral homeland for a swim and some grinders. Thanks ever so to Rachel’s Mom!
We packed Studio 34 with the help of the Lesbian Dorkestra and their hilarious covers of songs like “Iowa.” This was probably the one and only time the Femme Show will ever take a curtain call to Melissa Etheridge.

This was apparently the part of the tour where I forgot to take pictures. So you’ll have to trust me when I tell you that the Shadow Lounge is awesome! It’s a beautiful space that does all sorts of events and includes a lounge called AVA that is just the right amount of swanky and comfortable.
The lovely folks at the Dyke and Trans March Committee brought out a huge crowd and made us feel so welcome. Nichole Faina, Bekezela Mguni, inFERNo, and Leslie Whore gave amazing performances.
I want to share Nichole’s affirmation with you: “I am a life force of femme fabulousness in a perplexing universe of femme oppression. The power to overcome is in me.” beautiful.

I just love what the Pittsburgh City Paper has to say about our show there:
Only two genders, darling? How unspeakably limiting. Learn just how much more there is to sexuality at The Femme Show. The touring performance troupe explores gender, queerness and sexuality with both sassy humor and pointed purpose. Monologists include Mylene St. Pierre, exploring “fat kinky femme sexuality,” while Johnny Blazes (“a female-bodied transgendered person who expresses hirself femininely”) holds forth on “passing.” There’s burlesque, puppet theater and music; the show, presented at Shadow Lounge by the Pittsburgh Dyke & Trans March, also features local femmes Bekezela Mguni (poetry) and Brawlwitdabra (burlesque). BO 6:30 p.m. 5972 Baum Blvd., East Liberty. $5-10. 412-363-8277 or www.thefemmeshow.com
