Before Boston Pride…
There was Femme Pride in NYC! I was lucky enough to get my butt on the Bolt Bus and perform at the Femme Family Coming Out Party. Bevin has a recap here. It left me thinking about friendliness, femme community, and femme sisterhood.
Walking into the Stonewall Inn did feel momentous. This is a historic place that means more to me than many I’ve visited or walked by every day in Boston. Inside, it was nicer than I expected, clean and shiny, which is great when you’re trying to warm up to dance on pointe. On the other hand, once we were inside and doing our thing it felt like we could have been in any gay bar in America. But what a great opportunity to think about transgressive gender and revolution and taking matters into your own hands.
