I love Craigslist. It has brought me good, long-lasting jobs, strange one-time jobs, my cute blue bike, roommates, and dates. It also provides hours of entertainment, and by entertainment I mean reasons to roll my eyes, vent, and scream. Right now in the Boston women-for-women section you can find totally serious, well-thought out personal ads written by well-adjusted people who are capable of saying what they want but are not discriminatory a-holes. You can also find pretty girls looking for a “first time,” men pretending to be pretty girls looking for a “first time,” the above-mentioned discriminatory a-holes, the word “femme” used to mean “straight-looking,” and a discussion of whether or not Rachel Maddow is butch. Like most Sunday mornings I got up and was lazily skimming my live journal – yes it’s true I’m still an LJ person even though I do blogging gigs like this there is still something about LJ that keeps me coming back. Anyway, so I was skimming through random postings from communities and my friend’s list when I saw something that caught my eye.
Bellow is an incredible piece of writing by Taueret, a kick ass new york femme who I feel super privileged to know!!!! When I read it I knew immediately that I wanted to share this piece with all of you and immediately emailed for permission to post it here:

Last week we talked about ankle strap high heels. In the category of “making heels walkable” I highly recommend these. It’s not a regular padded insole, it shifts your weight back onto your heels.
They are made by Insolia and are about $10 at CVS, or you can get a 3-pack for $20 here. I have them in the shoes I wear for No Femmes Allowed and SPPSSM, and they made it possible for me to go from pointe shoes to heels and back during all those shows last year!

screencap of our meeting. Femmes and friends of the future!
As The Femme Show unofficial photographer I just couldn’t resist capturing this moment via screencap photography of our Femme Show collective meeting on Sunday night. I was participating via SKYPE video calling and two other folks were on speaker phone.
Living in NYC but being able to participate in a meeting happening in Boston completely blows my mind and it feels to me a lot like we are living in an age of science fiction! This is just one of the many reasons as a femme I’m very grateful to the internet. The ability to be online has in many ways made community possible for me. It connected me to other femmes around the world who I otherwise would have never had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with. How has the internet impacted your perspective on femme community?

The sexy, sweet straps not only make my legs look longer and (hopefully) inspire thoughts of ankle restraints, they also make walking so much easier!
In the midst of an awful week last week, I stopped at Payless for the only kind of “retail therapy” I can afford. I tried on an awesome grey pump with a big bow on the heel, but wobbled instantly. I realized that I can’t handle heels without an ankle strap. I love the aesthetic of straps that wrap around the ankle, and for a sweet casual look I like the character-shoe inspired look. is up on youtube. Kate’s been busy being gay for god in New York City, but she found time to upload this vintage video from the 2008 show! It’s called Tee Hee.
