Cambridge Public Library, Central Square branch (Lewis Room), 45 Pearl St., Cambridge
Free reception and performance showcase in honor of Love Your Body Month, co-hosted by Big Moves Boston and Greater Boston NOW. The free reception features Big Moves performers, as well as speakers from both organizations and guest artists from around the Boston area. Look also for refreshments and free Love Your Body posters from NOW.
Big Moves dancers will be running classic repertory numbers from their past 3 ½ years of work in the Boston area, as well as excerpts from their upcoming musical, Hot Buffet, a dystopian musical satire inspired by Cabaret, The Handmaid’s Tale, and food porn. Additional guests include Johnny Blazes from the Femme Show (running October 10-11 at the Cambridge YMCA) and folk guitarist Liz Oehlschlaeger.
The reception officially kicks off LOVE YOUR BODY, a radical display of body positivity running October 1 through 31 at the library. LOVE YOUR BODY is a mixed-media exhibit of art, propaganda, and the naked truth about how loving your body, whatever your size, shape, color, or ability, can change the world you live in. Inspired by NOW’s Love Your Body Day (October 15), LOVE YOUR BODY is curated/produced by Big Moves, with additional materials from the NOW Foundation.
