The Femme Show: Call for Proposals
The Femme Show is currently accepting proposals for artists to join the existing cast for our 2nd Annual Boston-area show at the Cambridge Family YMCA Theatre on October 10 and 11, 2008. This is an amazing chance to join cutting edge queer artists in a show that is going places in 2008!
With film, dance, literary readings, burlesque, drag, and performance art from award winning artists, the Femme Show offers a variety of diverse perspectives on femme identity with subject matter that is at times thoughtful, sad, sexy, funny, and fun.
The Boston debut of The Femme Show was attended by over 220 people over two nights. The Show was featured in Bay Windows, New England’s largest gay and lesbian newspaper, and was an editor’s choice in the Boston Phoenix. You can learn more at www.thefemmeshow.com.
The Femme Show is seeking proposals for performances in all genres. Priority will be given to multidisciplinary and/or collaborative work. Comedy, film, performance art, dance, video, spoken word, literary readings, dance, short plays, music and other disciplines are all welcome. All work should directly address femme identity, femme experience, and/or queer femininity. The Femme Show welcomes work from all kinds of femmes and from people of all genders and identities who find those topics interesting. In other words: You don’t have to be femme, female, woman or lesbian id’d to participate.
The Femme Show is looking for well considered proposals from professional and semi-professional artists. We don’t really care how you make your living, but we expect that your art is more than a hobby - that you care a lot about it and are interested in putting a lot of time into it.
College shows pay a small honorarium and other shows pay via our profit-sharing program. Performers are expected to attend workshops with other Femme Show artists for feedback and development purposes, and are also expected to perform at preview performances and help with outreach.
To Apply: Send a 1 page description of your proposed work by Monday, June 23, to info@thefemmeshow.com. Include number of performers involved, technical needs, length (no more than 12 minutes, please). Scripts, recordings, videos, text and pictures are also welcome but nor required. Be sure to indicate how your piece relates to femme identity.
